In and around the village

Walks up Kirk Dale

The village sits at the mouth of the narrow valley of Kirk Dale, where the land rises from the Derwent toward the moors — the natural direction to walk from the village, and the line the Hall's old water garden once followed north up the dale.

The churchyard view

A stroll of about half a mile west of the village brings you to St Mary's Church, on rising ground with wooded slopes behind — and one of the best views toward Ebberston Hall, which is a private residence and cannot be visited.

Routes, distances and trail names

We deliberately don't publish trail names, distances or waymarking details here — they change, and getting them wrong on the moors matters. Use the North York Moors guide, Forestry England's Dalby Forest pages and an up-to-date OS map to plan a specific route.
