The Grapes Inn

Ebberston's traditional, family-owned country dining pub — on the A170 between Pickering and Scarborough.

The Grapes Inn is a welcoming country pub in the heart of Ebberston, serving real ales, wine and homemade pub food through the day. Inside is a cosy three-room interior — the main bar, a snug and a family room — and outside there's a beer garden and a large car park. Locals, walkers and passing trade are all made welcome.

It's dog-friendly, with a doggie menu, and there's a pool table. Between a day in Dalby Forest and the drive back over the moors, it's the obvious stop.

A pub with history

The Grapes was listed Grade II in 1986. The building is largely late-18th-century with earlier origins, built of sandstone under a pantile roof. It was bought in 1776 by the Thorpe family, who ran it until 2007, and it was refurbished in 2009.

The pub stands at the foot of the old drive to Ebberston Hall — the inn "at the end of the drive" where, the story goes, George Osbaldeston bartered the Hall's furniture piece by piece for drink.
